Chair - Murray Elston
Mr. Elston joined Bruce Power Corporation in June 2009 as Vice-President. He was formerly President of Canadian Nuclear Association (CNA) and prior to that, served as President of Canada 's Research-Based Pharmaceutical Companies (Rx&D).
From January to October 1998, Mr. Elston was a member of the Energreen Solutions Group and from 1994 to 1997 served as President of the Ontario Interlink Industrial Park .
From 1981 to 1994 Mr. Elston served as a member of the Ontario Legislature where he held a number of positions including Minister of Health, Chairman of the Management Board, Minister of Financial Institutions and Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee.
Mr. Elston is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario and holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Law degree. Prior to being elected to the Ontario Legislature, Mr. Elston practiced law in Bruce County, Ontario.
Mr. Elston is Chair of Ontario's Clean Water Legacy Trust and Chair of the Board of Directors of the University of Ottawa Institute of Mental Health Research. He is also a member on the Boards of Directors of the Canadian Nurses Foundation ( CNF ), HydroOne, General Insurance Company of The Royal Bank of Canada and Past Chair of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame (CMHF).

Vice-Chair: John Hartin
John Hartin is currently Vice President, Strategic Alliances and Business Operations at Netcelerate Corporation, an Ottawa based business communications service provider that utilizes “Cloud Computing” to offer “voice as a service” in addition to data and IT services to small and medium sized businesses.
John joined Netcelerate following his planned retirement from Nortel after a 23-year career. At Nortel, John held various senior management positions in several different parts of the business. The most recent before his retirement was Director, Business Operations, Global Supply Management – a position where he was accountable for many aspects of Nortel’s interaction with its global supply base. Prior to this, his management positions included Director, Communications, Global Supply Management; Director, Communications, Northern Telecom Electronics; Director, Communications and Marketing Support, Semiconductor Components Group; and Director, Plant Engineering and Facilities Management for the Semiconductor Components Group in Ottawa.
Mr. Hartin is quite active within the community. In addition to his involvement with the CNF, John is a member of the Board of Directors of the Ottawa Children’s Treatment Center (OCTC). He is also a Past Chair of the Board of Directors, the Ottawa Civic Hospital Foundation; Past Member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors, the Loeb Medical Research Institute; Past Member of the Board of Trustees, the Ottawa Civic Hospital; Past Member of the Board of Directors, the Ottawa Health Research Institute; and Past Member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors, the United Way of Ottawa-Carleton.

President: Rachel Bard
Before joining CNA in early 2009, CEO Rachel Bard held various positions with the government of New Brunswick, namely deputy minister of environment, deputy minister of post-secondary education, training and labour, deputy minister of post-secondary education and training, deputy minister of training and employment development, assistant deputy minister of public health and medical services with the Department of Health and Wellness, and assistant deputy minister responsible for post-secondary education with the Department of Education. She has also worked as a nurse in mental health for over 27 years, holding a number of positions in the clinical, administrative and educative fields. Ms. Bard has been very active on the international and national scenes. She is past president of CNA and has represented Canada on the International Council of Nurses and on international working groups on the workforce and on health care. She was the Canadian delegate at the International Labour Conference – Youth Employment and on the Governing Board of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development for the Centre for Educational Research and Innovation.

Past-Chair - David Hill, O.C.
Mr. Hill is a native of Ottawa, a Founding Partner and Co-Chair of the law firm Perley-Robertson, Hill & McDougall LLP. Mr. Hill is Member of the Order of Canada and has been involved in health related activities for many years. He is the Past Chair of Board of Trustees of the Ottawa Civic Hospital, Past Chair of the Board of Directors of the Loeb Health Research Institute and a Member of the Board of the David Smith Centre. He recently retired as Vice-Chair of the Board of Trustees of the National Arts Centre

Board Member - Wilbert Keon
Senator Wilbert Joseph Keon, OC, is a heart surgeon, researcher and Canadian Senator. Born in Sheenboro, Quebec, he received a Bachelor of Science from St. Patrick's College, CarletonUniversity and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Ottawa. After a period of studying and teaching at Harvard University in Boston, he returned to Ottawa in the early 1970s. Dr. Keon founded the University of Ottawa Heart Institute at the OttawaCivicHospital and acted as its CEO for more than thirty years until his retirement in 2004. In 1986, he was the first Canadian to implant an artificial heart into a human as a bridge to transplant. In 1990 he was appointed to the Senate by Governor General Ray Hnatyshyn on the advice of Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, where he sits as a Conservative. In 1960 he married Anne Jennings. They have three children: Claudia, Ryan (who has recently announced his intention to seek the Liberal Party of Canada nomination in the Ontario riding of Nepean-Carleton) and Neil.

Board Member - Ginette Lemire Rodger
Dr. Ginette Lemire Rodger is the Vice President Professional Practice, and Chief Nursing Executive at the Ottawa Hospital, the Ottawa University Heart Institute and the Rehabilitation Centre as well as Adjunct Professor at the schools of nursing of the University of Ottawa and Queen's University.
She is past President of the Canadian Nurses Association. Prior to 1989, she was concurrently the Executive Director of the Canadian Nurses Association, Secretary Treasurer of the Canadian Nurses Foundation and Secretary Treasurer of the Canadian Nurses Protective Society.
Throughout her career, she has served on commissions and board of directors of many health, nursing, political and educational organizations, including serving as Chair of the Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation and member of the Medical Research Council of Canada. Ginette has been involved internationally with nursing and health projects on all continents of the world and at the policy level with the World Health Organization.

Board Member - Fraser Green
Fraser Green is unique in North America with respect to his combined expertise in market research and philanthropy. He is a self-confessed ‘market research freak’ who believes that donors, prospects and members have so much more to tell us if we simply ask them thoughtfully and appropriately.
Fraser is a Principal at FLA Group, one of Canada’s leading fundraising consulting agencies. At FLA, Fraser’s focus is on charitable branding strategy, donor research and legacy giving. Prior to joining FLA in 1996, Fraser was CEO of the New Democratic Party of Canada, Special Assistant to Ontario Premier Bob Rae and Director of Organization for the Ontario NDP.
Fraser has lived in 8 of Canada’s 13 provinces and territories.
Fraser is a gifted writer and a sought after public speaker. He presents regularly at fundraising conferences in Canada, the USA and Europe. His articles and contrarian rants (as he calls them) are frequently published in professional journals. Fraser is the co-author of ‘Iceberg Philanthropy’ (2007), and a contributing author of ‘Philanthropy in Seven Words’ (to be published early in 2010). His next book is a state secret.
Fraser has a BA in Economics from St. Mary’s University in Halifax and did his graduate studies in Social Policy and Administration at Carleton University in Ottawa.
In his spare time, Fraser is passionate about his guitars and banjo, kayaking, yoga, cross-country skiing, cycling, reading and talking too much. The new love of his life is a chocolate Labrador puppy named ‘Oonagh’ (rhymes with tuna).
Fraser and his spouse Jennifer live with their two boys in a log house outside Ottawa. His daughter is completing a BA in political science at UBC and is just about ready to change the world. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

Board Member - Judith Shamian, R.N., Ph.D., L.L.D. (hon), D.Sci. (hon)
Dr. Shamian is currently the President and CEO of VON Canada (Victorian Order of Nurses for Canada) and President Elect of the Canadian Nurses Association. Judith was President of the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario and was the Executive Director of the Office of Nursing Policy for 5 years. Prior to that she was Vice President of Nursing at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto for 10 years and has held various academic positions since 1989.
As President and CEO of VON Canada, Judith has guided this 110 year old organization through a time of great transition and transformation to bring it under one organizational umbrella. This reorganized structure will allow VON to maintain its place as Canada’s largest, not-for-profit, charitable home and community care provider through its next century of existence. In this role Judith is championing the home and community care agenda in Canada, as well as working to strengthen partnerships between formal health care providers, families and friends who provide care, volunteers and community organizations in order to recognize and support the entire spectrum of care.
Dr. Shamian obtained her PhD from Case Western Reserve, Cleveland, Ohio, her Master's in Public Health from New York University, and her Baccalaureate in Community Nursing from Concordia University in Montreal. She is the 1995 recipient of the Ross Award for Nursing Leadership, the Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002 by the Governor General of Canada, the Award of Merit by CNA and CFNU in 2004, and is the recipient of two honorary doctorate degrees from the University of Lethbridge, Alberta in 2005, and Ryerson University, Toronto in 2006.
Judith has published and spoken extensively nationally and internationally on a wide range of topics. She is often called upon as an expert to speak to, and consult on, many issues surrounding nursing, health human resources, leadership, and health care policy by provincial and federal government departments and agencies, and internationally by other governments, academic bodies and the World Health Organization.
Judith was recently featured in Pivotal Moments in Nursing Volume II: Leaders who changed the path of a profession, published by the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.

Board Member - Howard Shearer
Mr. Howard Shearer joined Hitachi in October 1984, and is currently the President and Chief Executive Officer of Hitachi Canada Ltd. Prior to this, he served as Vice-President & General Manager, HCL-Semiconductor Division, and as a member of HCL’s board, positions to which he was appointed in 1999.
Previous to joining Hitachi he was employed by Texas Instruments. Mr. Shearer holds a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from McMaster University, Hamilton Ontario.
Howard Shearer’s other Board Memberships include the Japan Society and Responsible Gambling Council of Canada (RGCC).
Howard Shearer also holds Memberships in the Principal’s Advisory Council (PAC), University of Toronto at Mississauga, Canada Nuclear Association (CNA), Energy Council of Canada (ECC), and the Mississauga Board of Trade.

Board Member - Megan Ashlee Bowes
Ms. Megan Ashlee Bowes, CA, MHA is a Funding and Performance Consultant at the Champlain Local Health Integration Network (LHIN).
Megan Ashlee completed her Bachelor of Commerce degree at Queen’s University and accepted a position with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in Toronto. While there, she earned her Chartered Accountant designation and transferred to their Ottawa office. As a senior accountant, Ms. Bowes’ portfolio included public companies, not-for-profit clients and healthcare agencies.
Megan Ashlee received her Master of Health Administration in April 2008 from the University of Ottawa after completing a four-month residency at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario.
