Executive Director

 

Hélène Sabourin

 

Hélène Sabourin, RN, BScN, MHA, worked at the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) for 11 years before accepting the Executive Director’s position at the Canadian Nurses Foundation (CNF) in October 2006.

 

Prior to accepting her new role at CNF, Sabourin was a senior nursing consultant in CNA’s Nursing Policy department where she focused on patient safety, scope of practice and education issues.

 

Past responsibilities include policy development and liaison with international nursing associations with the International Policy and Development department and management of the certification program.

 

In 2004, through the University of Ottawa, she participated in the Canadian Health Services Research Foundation/Canadian Institutes of Health Research Nursing Chair summer internship program in multiple interventions for community health with Nancy Edwards.

 

Hélène also has over 10 years experience as a registered nurse in the provision of direct care to clients in different clinical settings.

   
 

Director of Fundraising

 

Jonelle Istead

 

Jonelle Istead comes to the CNF from Parliament Hill where she held a position in communications. Her keen interest in public policy and extensive knowledge of the political process will serve her well in her new role at the Foundation.

 

Jonelle has an impressive fundraising and volunteer history. While studying at the University of Waterloo, she completed five internships at not-for-profit organizations across Canada.

 

Following her education, she spent three years at the Royal Conservatory of Music, chiefly in fundraising, before moving into politics.

 

As a volunteer, Istead has assisted HIV/AIDS and breast cancer charities, various arts organizations, youth soccer clubs and has worked on several political campaigns both at the provincial and federal level.

   
 

Foundation Coordinator

 

Susan Fulford Hearn

 

Susan Fulford Hearn has many years of experience in the not-for-profit sector.  She describes protecting and promoting universal access to public health as "a hill to die on".  Her passion for improved social justice is the motivation for coming to work each day.

 

In her previous position with VON Canada, Susan was a go-to person for information on family caregivers, and she contributed directly to the content and design of the VON caregiver portal "Caregiver Connect/Aidants en reseau".  Other roles included work on community board development and sponsorship/event development.

 

Susan believes that improved patient outcomes are closely related to an holistic philosophy of care that includes art and nature as paths to healing body, mind and spirit.  Her volunteer work has included support to an emergency shelter for women and children fleeing domestic abuse, workshops in basic gardening for disadvantaged families, and upgrading reading skills with middle-school children.

 

   
 

Financial Coordinator

 

Magda Baillot

 

Magda Baillot joined the Canadian Nurses Foundation in March 2005 as the Bookkeeper and Financial Data Coordinator. She holds a Bachelor Degree in Administration from the University of Ottawa and has always worked in the field of finance bringing many years of experience in this regard.

 

She has worked twelve years for the Federal Government in Finance. Previously Magda had joined SNC-Lavalin Defence, an Engineering firm, where she assisted the accountant in various financial matters.

 

Magda continues her interest in this field by keeping abreast with new financial techniques.
