2010/2011 Nursing Care Partnership (NCP) Program

Organizations : Become a Partner

If your organization already has funds allocated (or is interested in allocating funds) for operating grants for research projects on nursing care issues, NCP can augment those funds and help you promote your organization and research results.

NCP contributes 1 dollar for every 2 partner dollars toward the cost of scientifically meritorious research projects that meet our criteria.

How do partnerships work?

The purpose of forming partnerships—both large and small—is to use the NCP fund to leverage existing nursing care research funding and encourage new supporters of nursing care research. Partners include charities, foundations, healthcare organizations and corporations, universities, government, nursing organizations, institutes and other agencies with an interest in supporting nursing care research.

Partner organizations usually:

  • run their own competitions

  • submit successful proposals to CNF for approval through the NCP merit review process and CNF Board

  • administer funds to successful candidates.

Information Required for Submission

NCP partnership may be able to work in several ways, including:

  • To augment the size of a grant - that is, if you have $12,000 to allocate for a grant, NCP could contribute another $6000, making the grant $18,000.

  • NCP could stretch the funds to allow the partner to give more grants. That is, keeping the award at $12,000, the partner would contribute $8000 and NCP $4000. That may mean that another $6000 grant could be given - $4000 from the partner and another $2000 from NCP.

(NOTE: These dollar figures are used as examples only. NCP has both large and small partnerships. Funding ceilings are negotiated with each partner depending on how close the fit is with NCP criteria and priorities).

CNF requires 6 copies of the following information at the time of proposal submission:

  1. Full project proposal with the following information included or added:

Research team members – education and experience; role in the project.

Summary – purpose and objectives; background; method (sample, data collection, analysis, feasibility etc.); ethical considerations; dissemination plans; potential impact on nursing care (direct or indirect).

Budget – detailed accounting of how research dollars will be spent.

  2. Partner scientific review committee composition including name, discipline, area of expertise (e.g. bioethics, research methodology, statistics, decision-maker), and current role. It should be clear who is reviewing from a decision-maker point of view. Decision-makers include administrators, managers, Clinical Nurse Specialists and professional practice leaders. Clinicians and educators are not viewed as decision-makers.

  3. Partner review process including policy on formal ethical review; agency or program mandate; guidelines for reviewers, including assessment criteria and weighting. Describe how the project is reviewed for relevance and/or potential impact to health services delivery.

  4. Reviewers’ comments on individual proposals – strengths and weaknesses.

  5. Final rating and ranking of individual proposals if applicable.

  6. The completed DATA COLLECTION SHEET. Note: this is easily filled out by the principal investigator.

Submit 6 copies of partner application package by post or courier to:

Researchers:  Find a funding Partner

NCP works solely on the partnership structure described above. CNF does not run competitions directly. Nursing care researchers usually receive NCP funding by successfully competing in an NCP partner competition. To obtain information on current partners’ competitions, please contact NCP partner organization(s) directly.

What if there is no fit for me with current NCP partners?

If you are a researcher looking for funding for a project that will impact nursing practice, but you are not eligible to apply to any of NCP’s current partners, please contact us, we can discuss ideas for finding a partner or partners.

Several of our current NCP partnerships have resulted from researchers taking this initiative.
