Claire Betker

Claire Betker, RN, MN, CCHN(C)

claire-betker-official-photoClaire Betker has been a registered nurse for 38 years, promoting the health of individuals, families and communities. Claire’s nursing career began in rural Manitoba at a single-nurse public health office and over the next three decades, she worked in public health, home care and primary health care in a variety of settings and positions at local, regional, provincial and national levels.  With the National Collaborating Centre for Determinants of Health, Claire focused on leadership to advance health equity across Canada.  While at the Public Health Agency of Canada, she led the development of interprofessional competencies, used for all of Canada’s public health practitioners in public health organizations, academia, and workforce development and professional associations.  As the current director of the population health and health equity unit and the acting executive director of the Public Health Branch with Manitoba Health, Seniors and Active Living, she helps to develop intersectoral policy, standards and programs.

Claire is a CNA-certified community health nurse and a past president of the Community Health Nurses of Canada. She has a baccalaureate degree in nursing from the University of Manitoba, a master’s in nursing from the University of Calgary and is pursuing a PhD, with a focus on leadership and health equity, at the University of Saskatchewan’s college of nursing.
