Delia McDonald

TD Aboriginal Nursing Fund Award – Baccalaureate

I am a First Nations nursing student from the Akwesasne Mohawk Territory. I will be entering into my final year of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Collaborative Program through Ottawa University and Algonquin College. My goals are to complete my education and strive to one day involve myself in outpost nursing, serving our northern communities. I then hope to return home to my community, bringing along with me the knowledge that I have accumulated throughout my placements. My inspiration stems from my parent’s influence growing up. My father is a registered practical nurse working at home in Akwesasne. His caring nature drives my own. Another source of inspiration has been my mother and her drive to improve the health of our people through administrative projects and collaborations. I find great reward in taking care of others and seeing to their improved health.

I feel that this generous award will further aid my studies and ambitions by allowing me more time to focus on my education and practice. I am deeply grateful to receive such an honour. I am confident that I will complete my studies and have a strong desire to reach my goals of the improved health and support of my community members, as well as those in our northern regions.
