Janice Rhea Echavez

RBC Diversity in Nursing Fund Award

I am a Registered Nurse in the Philippines and graduated Nursing in 2011. In that same year, I moved to Canada and pursued my nursing career. As a recent graduate, the process to attain and practice my profession here is truly challenging, considering the difference in nursing practice, competency exams and requirements. With only my student clinical experience, I grabbed opportunities related to nursing and served as a member of the Bridge to Canadian Nursing advisory committee at Mount Royal University.

Having received this RBC Diversity in Nursing award, I feel so privileged and more driven to continue my passion in nursing and health care. This award will benefit me in many aspects. Not only will it help me financially but it will also encourage me in fulfilling my bridging studies to broaden my nursing knowledge and skills. With this, I can perform care competently as an RN in Canada, directly impacting the lives of my patients, their families and the community in a positive way. I am genuinely grateful to CNF and RBC for recognizing my academic abilities and potential to serve in the Canadian nursing profession. I plan to further my learning by gaining experience in different clinical settings, then specializing either in critical care pediatrics or oncology, and become a Nurse Practitioner in the coming years.
