RBC Diversity in Nursing Fund Award

It takes a special person to be a nurse as it requires your whole being to be good one. I have always wanted to be a nurse, I have aunts I looked up to as a child and I always asked them what they do. I grew up having them as an inspiration that someday I will be a nurse too, looking after other people in times when they need someone to be on their side in their weakest points. I always thought it must feel good to be needed and the fulfillment it brings you when you touched other people’s lives.

There are times that I feel so overwhelmed with work as it can be stressful at times but then I go back to the purpose of my work. As a nurse, I was given opportunity to interact with doctors, medical team, and be with my patients and comfort family members. It taught me to become a decision maker and to learn each day not only with the skills but to be humane, compassionate and patient. It taught me the importance of showing kindness, empathy and concern of every patient’s situation. More than anything else, it taught me to find myself, my purpose in life and to appreciate the things that I am capable of doing.
