Award Recipient

Karri Andriashyk

Kaye Rodger Memorial Award

I am currently entering the fourth year of my Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree. I recently came back from a nursing experience in Samoa where I learned about culture, global health and nursing in a developing country. This was a very rich learning experience for me. I have also had clinical experiences in many areas including long term care, medical/surgical, mental health and community development. At present, I am working as an Employed Student Nurse in the ICU at Royal Inland Hospital, Kamloops BC where I am learning how to care for critically ill patients and use critical thinking in high acuity situations.

I am thrilled and honoured to be receiving this award, and am excited to share with you my plans for the future. I have started my critical care specialty certification courses. This will equip me with the specialized skills and knowledge I need to care for patients in the critical care setting, which is one of my main areas of interest for my nursing career. I am also interested in getting involved with street outreach nursing after gaining some experience in the acute care setting. This award is an important gift and I am thankful to be shown so much support from the Canadian Nurses Foundation in my future career endeavors.
