Sunny Jiao

Lundbeck Award

I chose to become a nurse because I always lived in a world of people possibilities, and I was interested in serving as a catalyst of change. Although nurses tend to shy away from mental health and addictions, this is my area of passion.  As a front-line nurse, I have the privilege of caring for individuals in their greatest time of need.  At the same time, I am witness to the very real impact of health and health care inequities.  Longing to affect change on a larger scale in the complex health care environment, I enrolled in Master of Health Administration studies.  Looking further to complement health administration skills with researcher training, I began Master’s studies in Nursing.

This coming September, I will begin Nursing PhD studies where I will engage in research related to the promotion of health equity in the context of mental health and addictions through improving nursing practice and health service delivery. In this, I am tremendously grateful to the CNF for this generous award in support of my studies.  Thank you for the opportunity to actualize my potential for leadership to better serve those who instill an incredible amount of trust in our profession!
