Rachel Bard, RN, M.A.Ed.
Until her retirement in January 2013, Rachel served as CEO of the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) from January 2009 to 2013. Before joining CNA, she held numerous leadership positions with the Government of New Brunswick as Deputy Minister of Environment 2007-2008; Deputy Minister of Post-Secondary Education, Training & Labour 2003-2007; Assistant Deputy Minister of Public Health & Medical Services 2001-2003; Assistant Deputy Minister & CEO New Brunswick Community Colleges 2000-2001; Assistant Deputy Minister of Post-Secondary Education 1998-2000. Prior to that, Rachel had a progressive career in mental health from 1971 to 1998, holding a number of position in the clinical, administrative and educative fields. Her last position in that field was Executive Director of Programs, Mental Health Services Division for the Province of New Brunswick. Rachel’s activities also extend to the international and national scenes, including the International Council of Nurses; International Labour Conference – Youth Employment; OECD Center for Educational Research and Innovation; CNA Past President; past Chairperson of LearnSphere Canada and Société Santé en Français Inc. Rachel served on CNF’s Board of Directors from 1994-96 and again from 2009-2013. Currently she is on the Board of Trustees of the Canadian Bar Law for the Future Fund (LFFF) and the East Champion for the Canadian Health Leadership Network (CHLNet) as well as her appointment as Chair of the CNF Board of Directors.
