Scholarship Types

The Scholarships online application process is now closed.  The site will be available again in December 2016.

The Canadian Nurses Foundation is proud to offer more than 50 scholarships in support of nursing education. These awards have different values, depending on the level or area of practice. The ranges are as follows:

 

Awards are limited to Canadian citizens or permanent residents who are studying in Canada at a Canadian university or college. Applicants must have at least three semesters remaining in their program after June 30. Certain awards have additional eligibility criteria. Please see the award description below. Award value or availability may change without notice.

You many only receive one award per annum.

Baccalaureate Judy Hill Memorial Students currently working in Canada’s North, or who have worked there and want to upgrade their skills/knowledge to be of better service to continue working there. Applicants must provide details of their plans to work there for at least 12 months. 3,000
Baccalaureate Margaret Munro Award Preference may be given to students from PEI or those studying at UPEI 3,000
Baccalaureate Nightingale Award This award was inspired in 1998 by CNF supporter, Mr. Po Ting Ip, of Vancouver, BC. The award is to provide a special opportunity to home care nurses in Canada for the important work they do, but more specifically “to encourage the award recipient to have Florence Nightingale’s spirit”. 1,000
Baccalaureate Northern Award Students who intend to work in Canada’s North. Preference to nurses of Aboriginal origin, or who have worked in the north for at least 2 years. 3,000
Baccalaureate Nova Scotia Nurses Award Nurses who are members of CRNNS or nursing students residing in Nova Scotia 3,000
Baccalaureate Sharon Nield Memorial Registered diploma nurses returning to school to obtain a baccalaureate degree, or Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) or Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs) wishing to become Registered Nurses through a baccalaureate program. 3,000
Baccalaureate TD Aboriginal Baccalaureate Scholarship The TD Aboriginal Nursing Fund will support First Nation Status or Non-status, Inuit or Métis nurses at the Bachelor, Master’s, PhD and Nurse Practitioner levels. This fund aims to support Canadian Aboriginal nursing students. 3,000

Masters Aplastic Anemia and Myelodysplasia Association of Canada Scholarship Nurses who will be focusing their research in the field of hematology or oncology. Recipient must be willing to increase awareness of Aplastic Anemia, Myelodysplasia (MDS) and Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria (PNH) issues by presenting to colleagues or sitting on the Board of the Association. Preference given to CANO members. 5,000

Masters Dr. Helen Preston Glass Fellowship Open to all eligible students, priority will be given to those focused on Primary Health Care. 5,000
Masters Dr. Helen K. Mussallem Fellowship Open to all eligible students at the master level. Established by Dr. Mussallem, C.C., distinguished nurse made Member of the Order of Canada and elevated twice in her ranks. 5,000
Masters Dr. Dorothy J. Kergin Fellowship (masters level) Open to all eligible students at master level. “Established by Dr. Kergin, a distinguished nurse, who was Professor and Associate Dean of Health Sciences at McMaster University and later Professor and Director of the School of Nursing at the University of Victoria”. 5,000
Masters or PhD NEW!  Dr. Kathryn J Hannah Nursing Informatics Scholarship Supports RNs pursuing graduate studies in nursing informatics at the Master’s or PhD level. An individual may receive the award one time only. 3,000-5,000(TBC)
Masters (Neurosurgical or Cancer) Eleanor Jean Martin Award Students interested in studying either Neurosurgical or Cancer nursing fields. 5,000
Masters (Gerontology) Extendicare Scholarship in Gerontology Open to nurses who intend to practice, teach or research in gerontology/long term care. 5,000
Masters NEW! Lundbeck Canada Inc. Mental Health Nursing Award Open to all RN’s working in mental  health. Award will  increase nursing capacity to improve mental health care and services. 4,000
Masters Extendicare Nurse Practitioner Scholarship Nurse Practitioner Scholarship, with priority given to those focusing on long-term care. 5,000

Manitoba Registered Nurses Centennial Legacy Scholarship

The Scholarship is available to Manitoba residents who are registered on the practicing register of the College of Registered Nurses Manitoba. The Scholarship shall provide support to registered nurses in Manitoba from all domains of practice pursuing graduate studies at the Master’s or PhD level.

An individual may receive the award one time only.

Masters New Brunswick Nurses Association Award Nurses who are members of New Brunswick Nurses Association or nursing students residing in NB and who intend to continue their practice in NB. 5,000

Masters Nova Scotia Nurses Scholarship Members of the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia only. 5,000
Masters Ovarian Cancer Canada (TBC) Open to eligible nurses at Master level who will focus their research on issues related to ovarian cancer. 3,000
Masters (Public Health) Sanofi Pasteur Limited Scholarship in Public/Community Health Open to all eligible students at Master level who have a specialty in Public Health/Community Health. “Established in 1990 by Sanofi Pasteur Ltd. the largest vaccine company in Canada. Its proud heritage of protecting human life against infectious disease in Canada dates back almost 100 years – to the beginning of vaccine production in this country”. 5,000

Doctoral Association of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland & Labrador Education and Research Trust 25th Anniversary Scholarship Available to members in good standing of ARNNL and whose primary residence is in Newfoundland and Labrador. 4,500
Doctoral AstraZeneca Open to all eligible students at the doctoral level, to enhance their knowledge and improve their expertise in diabetic nursing  9,000

Doctoral (Nursing Education) Dr. Pat L. Griffin Award (TBC) Open to all eligible students at the doctoral level interested in doing research that will impact nursing education. The Dr. Pat L. Griffin Scholarship Fund of CASN was established to acknowledge Pat’s leadership contributions to nursing education and scholarship. The fund will build an endowment to support Canadian research in Nursing education, and ultimately achieve her dream of establishing a Chair in Nursing Education. 5,000
Doctoral or Masters NEW! Doctoral Senator Norman Paterson Fellowship (TBC) Open to all eligible students at the doctoral level. “Established to honour the memory of Mr. Norman M. Paterson, who served as President of the Victorian Order of Nurses in Canada”. 3,000
Doctoral Sigma Theta Tau International Open only to nurses who are working on their PhD dissertation. 1,800

Doctoral TD Meloche – Monnex Open to all eligible students at the doctoral level. “Established by TD Meloche Monnex, Canada’s leading provider of insurance and added-value financial services, known for its exceptional quality of customer service. Certification Canadian Nurses Foundation

CNF will reimburse the fees, excluding tax and test centre fee, of the certification exam, certification renewal exam or renewal by continuous learning for at least one nurse in each of the CNA 20 specialties/areas of nursing practice, and you could be the winner!
