CIBC Indigenous Nursing Scholarship
My name is Sage Wellspring, and I’m a nursing student at Mount Royal University,
graduating in 2027. I chose nursing because it brings together compassion, critical
thinking, and advocacy. I want to care for people during their most vulnerable moments
while standing up for their dignity and well-being. I’m especially passionate about Labour
and Delivery nursing, where deep trust and connection are at the heart of care.
After completing my nursing degree, I plan to attend medical school to expand my
ability to advocate for patients and influence healthcare systems on a broader scale. My
long-term goal is to lead with empathy and drive change that makes healthcare more just,
inclusive, and effective.
Alongside my studies, I’m deeply involved in student leadership. I currently serve as
the Indigenous Liaison for the Student Nursing Society and will be President for the
2026–2027 school year. I’ve also served as VP of Upcycling, co-founded IVCF MRU (a
faith-based student group), and sit on the Student Engagement Committee. As an associate
delegate for the Canadian Nursing Students’ Association, I advocate for student voices at a
national level.
To me, nursing is a calling—a foundation for leadership, advocacy, and lifelong
service.
