I became a nurse because I want to help people feel comfortable in their most vulnerable moments. After watching my mom work as a nurse growing up and helping take care of my grandma when she was sick, I’ve learned that when people are in their most vulnerable moments, they can feel scared, worried, confused, unsure or in pain. In my opinion, in these cases, what matters most is the comfort of knowing you are not alone. This is what led me to pursue nursing in the Emergency Department (ED). The ED constantly has so much going on, all at the same time, and can feel super chaotic and overwhelming. I think we can all agree that being in the ED as a patient is scary and it can be one of the scariest days for some people. My goal here as a nurse is to find calm in the chaos, to be a steady and reassuring presence, and provide care to people that goes beyond their medical diagnosis. For me, nursing is about helping people feel safe, respected, and supported in the moments they need it most.
