CNSA Diversability Award

After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology in May 2023, I began working as a physiotherapy assistant at a specialized hospital for people who had experienced a spinal cord injury, stroke, or a degenerative neurological condition. That experience opened my eyes to the incredible impact you can have when you fully dedicate yourself to helping someone. I witnessed moments that changed my perspective completely. Whether it was the joy of seeing someone regain the independence to put on their shoes after months of recovery, or the life-changing moment when a patient walked again on their own. These experiences showed me the power of compassionate, consistent care.

As much as I valued that role, I found myself wanting to be even more hands-on in supporting people’s health and recovery. That desire is what led me to pursue a Bachelor of Nursing. For me, nursing combines the science of health with the human side of care – listening, advocating, and being present during some of life’s most difficult and meaningful moments.

I became a nurse because I believe in the difference that small acts of care can make. Whether it’s offering encouragement, restoring dignity, or helping someone achieve a milestone, I am grateful to be part of a profession that puts people first and works every day to make lives better.

We know that helping nurses and nursing students is a team effort. More qualified nurses, more nurse-led research, more nurses and nursing students supported with mentoring and proactive mental health programs and training – that’s the outcome of your support. This leads to a stronger, more robust healthcare system for Canada.

Your support today, on Giving Tuesday, empowers us to set ambitious goals, strengthen our resources, and show that our collective generosity fuels the next generation of nurses. Let’s make this year’s Giving Tuesday our most impactful yet, proving that our collective kindness can create lasting change.
