Teyah Weir

CNSA Diversability Award

My name is Teyah Weir, I’m 26 years old, and I’m going into my third year of nursing. Ever
since I was young, I’ve been fascinated by the medical world. I grew up surrounded by it—
my mom is a nurse, and I spent a lot of time in hospitals due to multiple surgeries I had as a
teenager. But instead of being afraid, I found myself curious. I remember watching the
nurses move through their shifts with skill, care, and kindness, and something in me just
clicked. I knew I wanted to be part of that world.

Becoming a nurse has always felt like the right path. I’ve always had a natural desire to
help people, and nursing gives me the chance to do that in such a personal and impactful
way. Whether it’s helping someone through a diagnosis, managing their pain, or just
offering a kind word when they need it most—I feel fulfilled in showing people compassion
and empathy.

What keeps me motivated is the human connection. There’s nothing more rewarding than
making someone feel safe, seen, and cared for. Nursing allows me to combine my love for
medicine with my heart for people, and I truly can’t imagine doing anything else.

We know that helping nurses and nursing students is a team effort. More qualified nurses, more nurse-led research, more nurses and nursing students supported with mentoring and proactive mental health programs and training – that’s the outcome of your support. This leads to a stronger, more robust healthcare system for Canada.

Your support today, on Giving Tuesday, empowers us to set ambitious goals, strengthen our resources, and show that our collective generosity fuels the next generation of nurses. Let’s make this year’s Giving Tuesday our most impactful yet, proving that our collective kindness can create lasting change.
