Eaton Foundation Award
Before beginning my nursing studies at Mount Royal University, I worked as a research coordinator—a role that introduced me to the hospital environment and fostered my deep appreciation for patient care. While I enjoyed the research aspect, I found myself continually drawn to the clinical side. Each year, I craved more direct interaction with patients. During COVID, I saw firsthand the strain that was placed upon our nurses. They were always short staffed and exhausted, however they always gave incredible care to their patients. I wanted to help. Their resilience and compassion inspired me deeply and made me realize I wanted to be part of that team—not behind the scenes, but at the bedside.
So, in the few years that followed, I made a plan to pursue nursing. Last year, the plan finally became reality. I was able to go back to school to follow my passion. The first moments in class I knew I made the right decision. The first day of clinical I knew I was meant to be a nurse. I belonged there. I wasn’t just learning a new profession; I was stepping into my purpose.
Being selected as a scholarship recipient is an incredible honor. This support will significantly ease the financial burden of my education and allow me to focus more fully on my studies and clinical experiences. After graduation, I aspire to specialize in emergency or critical care nursing and hope to integrate my background in research to contribute meaningfully to the field.
