John J Vanderlee Male Nursing Award
My name is Luigi Imbrogno, and I’m in the final year of the Bachelor of Nursing program at Red River College Polytechnic in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
I became a nurse because, at the end of the day, I want people to be safe, happy, and healthy. I’ve always had a strong interest in medicine, clinical reasoning, and problem-solving—and nursing combines all of that with the opportunity to work directly with people in meaningful ways.
What drew me in further was the flexibility of the profession. Nurses can move between specialties, practice settings, and even locations with ease. It’s a career that grows with you. It also gives me the chance to apply my passion for research and turn it into evidence-based practice that directly impacts patient care.
Throughout my studies, I’ve developed a particular interest in high-acuity and high-risk areas like emergency care and obstetrics. I’m also passionate about trauma-informed practice, health equity, and improving care in underserved and remote communities.
Being chosen as a CNF scholar means a great deal to me. It’s a vote of confidence that supports me as I finish school and step into practice. I’m excited to carry this support forward and contribute meaningfully to the profession and the people we care for.
