Judy Hill Scholarship

I didn’t always know I would become a nurse, but I’ve always known I wanted to help people. What drew me to nursing wasn’t just the idea of caring for others; it was the opportunity to be present in some of the most vulnerable, difficult, and meaningful moments of a person’s life.

Growing up, I watched family members navigate health challenges without always feeling heard or understood by the healthcare system. I saw the impact that a compassionate nurse could make, simply by taking the time to explain, to listen, and to advocate. Those moments stuck with me.

Nursing is where science and humanity meet. It’s a field that constantly challenges me to grow in skill and empathy. Whether it’s providing hands-on care, supporting a family through a crisis, or educating patients to better manage their conditions, nursing allows me to make a real difference.

What makes this profession special to me is the trust patients place in us. It’s a privilege to be someone’s steady hand when they’re scared, or their calm voice when everything feels uncertain. I became a nurse to be that kind of presence, someone who sees the person behind the diagnosis and never takes for granted the responsibility of caring for another human being.

We know that helping nurses and nursing students is a team effort. This leads to a stronger, more robust healthcare system for Canada.

Your support today, on Giving Tuesday, empowers us to set ambitious goals, strengthen our resources, and show that our collective generosity fuels the next generation of nurses.
