Po Ting Award
From childhood, I have always believed that caring for people is not just a job but a calling. Growing up in Nigeria, I saw firsthand how lack of access to healthcare can deeply affect families and communities. This planted in me a desire to be someone who brings relief, comfort, and hope when people need it most. Moving to Canada, balancing my nursing studies with raising my two young daughters, and working part-time has shown me how much resilience and compassion matter in this profession. I want to become a nurse because I believe every person, regardless of background or income, deserves quality care.
Being a nursing student at the University of Manitoba, especially in the northern community of The Pas, has opened my eyes to the unique health needs of underserved and Indigenous populations. I am determined to learn, grow, and advocate for patients who often feel invisible in the healthcare system.
I also see nursing as more than treating illness. It is about health education, cultural safety, environmental awareness, and supporting families. As I build my skills, I hope to be a source of encouragement and trust for my community. Nursing gives me a chance to live out my values every day, to serve, uplift, and make a difference, one patient at a time.
With the Canadian Nurses Foundation Scholarship, I hope to merge my passion for healthcare with sustainable practices that protect the wellbeing of both people and the environment.
