Solstice Toews

SANOFI Vaccines Scholarship in Public or Community Health

Hello, my name is Solstice Toews. I am 28 years old and am originally from Whitehorse, Yukon. I graduated nursing school in 2019 from UBCO in the Okanagan. I became a nurse because I loved science, I wanted to help people, and I wanted to travel and continue to learn throughout my career. Nursing has taken me all over Canada and allowed me to experience many new things. I have worked in a variety of areas with a range of communities and individuals. I have made friends along the way, learned tons of new things, and made meaningful connections. As my career evolved, I began to feel like I wanted to dig deeper and help more. I decided to start my Master’s in nursing to learn how to lead change in healthcare. I have a passion for working with people, health promotion, and figuring out how care can be truly person centred. I enjoy reading articles about recent discoveries in healthcare and how we can use this to make our communities’ health better. I love being outside, biking, hanging out with my dog, and spending time with loved ones. I hope that through my values and my professional knowledge I am able to center my career around meeting people where they are at, to improve not only their health, but their wellbeing.

Giving Tuesday has become a global movement for giving and marks the beginning of the giving season for your favourite causes. Thank you for joining Canadian Nurses Foundation today as we celebrate our 10th annual campaign. Double your gift today!

We know that helping nurses and nursing students is a team effort. More qualified nurses, more nurse-led research, more nurses and nursing students supported with mentoring and proactive mental health programs and training – that’s the outcome of your support. This leads to a stronger, more robust healthcare system for Canada.

Your support today, on Giving Tuesday, empowers us to set ambitious goals, strengthen our resources, and show that our collective generosity fuels the next generation of nurses. Let’s make this year’s Giving Tuesday our most impactful yet, proving that our collective kindness can create lasting change.
