Mikenna Stewart

Sawer Sisters Nursing Award

Growing up with an undiagnosed heart problem, I was in and out of the hospital more than the average child. Although these visits were full of uncertainty, fear and sadness, they were always made brighter with the help of the amazing nurses who cared for me. It was through these interactions that I realized that I too, wanted a career that allowed me to make a difference in people’s lives! Although nursing is a mentally, physically and emotionally challenging career, it is always worth it, as it allows me to connect with those in my community and support people in their time of need! The nursing profession is so vast and always evolving, I also love to learn about the newest research, best practices, and discuss current trials within the medical field! Nursing has also granted me a new outlook on life, after seeing a baby take its first breath, and being there for many peoples lasts, it has taught me that aging is a gift, and one that not everyone gets the privilege of having. I am honored to be part of this community and am excited for my future as a Registered Nurse! Thank you to the CNF for helping me achieve my goals through the Sawer Sisters Nursing Award!

Giving Tuesday has become a global movement for giving and marks the beginning of the giving season for your favourite causes. Thank you for joining Canadian Nurses Foundation today as we celebrate our 10th annual campaign. Double your gift today!

We know that helping nurses and nursing students is a team effort. More qualified nurses, more nurse-led research, more nurses and nursing students supported with mentoring and proactive mental health programs and training – that’s the outcome of your support. This leads to a stronger, more robust healthcare system for Canada.

Your support today, on Giving Tuesday, empowers us to set ambitious goals, strengthen our resources, and show that our collective generosity fuels the next generation of nurses. Let’s make this year’s Giving Tuesday our most impactful yet, proving that our collective kindness can create lasting change.
