My name is Fidelia Paschal-Esehien. I am a mother of three, a wife, and currently a nursing student in the Accelerated Option program at St. Francis Xavier University. My journey into nursing was not a straight path, but rather a calling that kept resurfacing through life’s twists and turns. There were times when I thought I was headed in a completely different direction, raising a family, pursuing other educational interests, and juggling work responsibilities. But time and again, I found myself drawn to roles that involved caregiving, support, and advocacy. Whether it was helping a neighbor through illness, comforting a struggling friend, or volunteering in my community.
I chose nursing because I believe deeply in the power of compassion, dignity, and care, especially for those who are most vulnerable. Growing up, I saw firsthand how a simple act of kindness from a healthcare provider could transform someone’s pain into hope. As a mother, I have also experienced how important good care is, not just for the patient but for the entire family.
Balancing school, family, and community work has not always been easy, but it has shown me that I am capable of much more than I imagined. I have been fortunate to volunteer in culturally inclusive health initiatives, like Taste of Africa and campus wellness events, where I witnessed how food, education, and community can bring people together.
To me, nursing is more than a profession. It is service, advocacy, and love in action. I am proud to be on this path, and I am excited to continue learning, growing, and giving back through every stage of the journey.
