Tylenol Canada Bursary
My name is Johnson Bankole, and I am a third-year nursing student at the university of Manitoba with a deep passion for community health and patient advocacy. I did not grow up thinking I would become a nurse, but I always knew I wanted to help people. My journey toward nursing really began when a close family member was hospitalized for a chronic illness. I remember feeling helpless at first, but then I started paying attention to the nurses, not just what they did, but how they made us feel. They were calm, kind, and knowledgeable. They made scary situations feel a little less overwhelming. That stuck with me.
As I learned more about the nursing profession, I realized it was the perfect fit. Nursing combines science, empathy, and real human connection. It’s not just about giving medications or taking vital sign, it’s about being there for people during their most vulnerable moments.
I chose nursing because I want to be that steady, compassionate presence for others—especially for those in underserved and underrepresented communities, where care isn’t always easy to access or trust. I believe everyone deserves dignity, respect, and quality care, no matter who they are or where they come from.
Nursing has already changed my life, and I can’t wait to use what I’ve learned to change the lives of others.
