Health, in my opinion, is about community, connection, and learning about other people’s experiences rather than only being free from disease. I seen firsthand the value of having nurses who genuinely listen and support culturally competent treatment. Witnessing family members navigate a healthcare system that frequently failed to comprehend their needs or values influenced my decision to become a nurse. I first witnessed the impact of minor actions, such as providing a calm presence or taking the time to explain a diagnosis in simple terms, when I began volunteering at community health clinics. I realized then that I wanted to be that person for other people. I’m dedicated to enhancing health equity and assisting Indigenous health efforts as a nursing student and CNF Scholar. Building bridges between Indigenous knowledge and Western medicine is my passion. I think that the only way we can actually bring about significant change is by fusing therapeutic expertise with respect for culture
