My name is Megan, and I am pursuing a Bachelor of Nursing at the University of Calgary. I have been working as a Licensed Practical Nurse for 4.5 years, most of which in acute care, and for fun I work as a Ski and Mountain Bike Patroller on the side. I also love being in the outdoors year-round and getting creative by refinishing old furniture.
Before nursing, I was a Pharmacy Assistant and an Emergency Medical Responder. However, I felt that I needed a career where I could help people and make more of a difference, so that is why I became a nurse. There is nothing more exciting and rewarding to me than finding a problem and being a part of the change. In nursing, I get to help people get better and support them in their most vulnerable and life altering times. I also love nursing because it’s a challenging career that provides me with countless opportunities for growth, education, and some of the most humbling and heart-warming experiences. Throughout this pandemic, I was able to find many strengths within myself working on the COVID and medical units and see just how courageous nurses can be in ambivalent circumstances.
I am hoping to pursue a career in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and eventually pursue an educator role to support and teach future generations of nurses. Nursing has allowed me to use my strengths to their full potential and I am excited for what the future holds.
