CNSA Parents in Nursing Award
My name is Tim Harding, I am 31 years old, married with two kids, and I just completed my 3rd year and have started my 4th year (fast track) in the NESA BN program at the University of Lethbridge. I love the outdoors, camping, fishing, and hiking. When I was 11, after learning about first aid in the Boy Scout program, I witnessed a woman have a stroke. I recognized it for what it was, and had no idea what to do. There was a doctor present, and watching him assess and help her was a huge inspiration to me. I wanted to be able to help people, so I initially became a primary care paramedic (PCP). However, my time with my patients was short and I rarely found out what their outcome was. I only got to help people when an emergency call came in, and helping people is one of the primary reasons I wanted to be in healthcare. I wanted more. I decided I wanted to be a nurse even though it would be hard work while raising a family. During my program, I have been able to be a regular participant in both the nursing student community and have had multiple leadership opportunities. I am so grateful for the opportunity to receive the CNSA Parents in Nursing Award. As a recipient, I hope to be an inspiration to other parents in nursing, especially those who hesitate due to the difficulties of raising children while attending school.
