Maggie Lin

Innovative Medicines Canada Award

I am a Master of Nursing – Nurse Practitioner (family/all ages) student at the University of Alberta. Born in Taipei, Taiwan and raised in White Rock, BC, I have spent most of my childhood travelling and learning about the world. Wherever I went, I saw the beauty and strengths in those around me. I became a nurse because I wanted to uplift and care for people in their most vulnerable moments. With creativity and innovation, I also sought to make my surrounding environments more inclusive and positive. Over the years, I felt a calling to work in global health settings and underserved communities as a nurse. While completing my BScN at McGill University, I undertook a global health nursing internship in China. This eye-opening experience led me to further pursue my passion for global health in the Indigenous context as a community health nurse and nursing supervisor in a First Nations community in northern Canada. It was truly a blessing to connect with and learn from community members and leaders and establish close partnerships and collaborations. There, I co-initiated culturally safe and impactful health promotion programs, and I was also awarded the Recognition for Workplace Enhancement.

I am very grateful and honoured to receive the Canadian Nurses Foundation – Innovative Medicines Canada Award. I look forward to continuing my lifelong learning and pursuit of nursing excellence as a nurse leader, researcher, and future nurse practitioner and dedicating my all to caring for patients and communities within Canada and abroad.
