Ovarian Cancer Canada Award
I am a student in the Direct-Entry Applied Master of Science program in the School of Nursing at McGill University. Prior to beginning this degree, I completed nearly 5 years of graduate studies in basic sciences, including a M.Sc. in Biochemistry from the University of Toronto. After a period of careful consideration that included job shadowing and a research assistant position, I decided to leave basic sciences to embark on a career in nursing. It was my passion for helping others and making a positive impact on patient lives that led me to this career change. Now, as Masters’ student, I work with Dr. Carmen Loiselle, a leading nurse researcher in psychosocial oncology. Under Dr. Loiselle’s mentorship, I am fortunate to be a fellow in the Canadian Institutes of Health Research Psychosocial Oncology Research Training (CIHR/PORT) Program. Through this training initiative, I am connected to other trainees, researchers, and health professionals in a rapidly expanding field. My current research project studies the use of virtual tools in oncology care. I am grateful for the financial support offered by the CNF Ovarian Cancer Canada Award towards this project. The recognition by this award is truly motivating as I work to gain insight into how virtual tools can help support oncology nurses to provide better care for their patients.
