Judy Hill Memorial Award
My name is Jessica and I am entering my fourth year of my BScN program through University of Victoria at Aurora College in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. I was born in the NWT, but grew up in Ontario; four years ago I chose to return to the North to pursue a career in nursing. My passion lies in linking nursing and social justice at the community level – both here in the NWT and abroad – and I am fortunate to be involved in many community groups and activities related to this, including the Aurora College Social Justice Committee. I strongly believe in the community outreach and advocacy role of nurses on a practice, policy, and research level, and am very excited to explore the diverse opportunities for nurses in these capacities in the North. I am honoured to have received the CNF Judy Hill Scholarship, and greatly appreciate this support as I work towards the completion my nursing degree this coming year. The dedication of Judy Hill and other former and current Northern nurses serves as motivation for all nurses studying and practicing in Canada’s North, and I am thrilled to be following my passion for nursing in this unique Canadian setting.
