Award Recipient

Sarah Brooks

TD Aboriginal Nursing Fund Award

My name is Sarah Brooks and I am currently in pursuit on my BScN through the Nursing education program of Saskatchewan. Nursing gives me the opportunity to do what I love most; care for others. I’ve always been passionate about people. I have a genuine concern for everyone regardless of their race, ethnicity and background; I believe that everyone has a right to be cared for by someone who is compassionate and respectful. I have become very interested in street and community nursing, specifically focusing on the social determinants of health, mental illness and addictions. My devotion to mental health has led me to pursue dual registration as a psychiatric nurse in addition to my degree as an RN. My goal is to become an advocate for those who are less fortunate, underprivileged and marginalized by society. I want to provide education on health promotion and healthy lifestyles and break down the barrier of health care inaccessibility. I am honoured and extremely grateful to be a recipient of the CNF TD Aboriginal Fund Award. This award will help lighten my financial burden and allow me to concentrate on the most important aspect of my program, learning. As a student it is extremely challenging to balance focusing on classes and homework while keeping up with the incredible expense of schooling; this financial support will allowed me to give 110 % to my studies.
