Dr. Ann Beckingham Award

A nurse since 1993, Sylvain Brousseau completed his Bachelor of Nursing degree at the University of Ottawa and his Master of Nursing degree at Université de Montréal, where he is currently enrolled in the Nursing PhD program, option administration, under the supervision of Professors Chantal Cara and Régis Blais. He received scholarships from Centre FERASI in partnership with Hôpital du Sacré-Cœur de Montréal, from MELS and from the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral studies of Université de Montréal. He has several years of experience in clinical practice (medical-surgical, infection prevention and control and community health) and in administration. Upon completing his doctoral studies, he intends to pursue a career of nursing professor-researcher at Université du Québec en Outaouais. Since 2002, he has been active on the Board of Directors of Ordre régional des infirmières et infirmiers Laurentides/Lanaudière. Moreover, he served 9 years on the Commission infirmière régionale des Laurentides and from 2006 to 2008 on the Board of Directors of Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers du Québec (OIIQ). Since 2005, he has given lectures at several Canadian and international conferences. His research interests mainly focus on the disciplinary perspective of caring in management, on the humanisation of the working life quality of nurse managers, and on mixed and phenomenological methods. He is a passionate nurse who is open to creativity and innovation in nursing because he believes in the quality of care. His sense of responsibility and his leadership were key to his professional career.
