CNSA Bilingualism Award

My interest in healthcare started immediately after high school, and I have built my skill set for the past ten years. I started by taking a few medical terminology courses and then working as a resident advisor at an independent living facility, which inspired me to complete my health care aide certificate in 2018. I have worked as a health care aide for five years, and I love my job. Part of the reason why I decided to take my BSN is to be able to advocate for my clients more and have a more active role in their care planning.

In 2019 I joined my local Volunteer Fire Department as a volunteer firefighter. In the past three years, I have moved up to First Responder, Lieutenant, and now Assistant Chief of integrated fire medical. My work in the fire department spurred my interest in returning to school to complete my registered nurse training. I was given many opportunities to train in trauma situations, and my first responder license allowed me to provide emergency prehospital care to people in my community. After completing my Nursing Degree, I plan on continuing my education to work as a critical care nurse. I aspire to be an emergency department nurse as a member of the trauma team or HART team. My passion is to be able to make a positive impact on my patients during a challenging time in their lives.

We know that helping nurses and nursing students is a team effort. More qualified nurses, more nurse-led research, more nurses and nursing students supported with mentoring and proactive mental health programs and training – that’s the outcome of your support. This leads to a stronger, more robust healthcare system for Canada.

Your support today, on Giving Tuesday, empowers us to set ambitious goals, strengthen our resources, and show that our collective generosity fuels the next generation of nurses. Let’s make this year’s Giving Tuesday our most impactful yet, proving that our collective kindness can create lasting change.
