Glenna Roswell Award

In my life, I had several experiences with healthcare institutions for a variety of personal reasons. There, I met caring and generous people, but above all, competent health professionals who exemplified technical and interpersonal skills. Through them, I discovered the nursing profession and I developed a desire to join their ranks. I was also attracted by the expertise of nurses. In addition to caring and calling, I appreciated the scientific knowledge, professional empowerment and extensive scope of practice offered by a nursing career. So, at the age of 22, I returned to school to become a health professional, a nurse. Since graduating, I worked in different practice settings; through these experiences, I became passionate about developing the nursing profession and improving working conditions. This is what led me to pursue graduate studies. I believe in the necessity of raising awareness of the full value of nursing expertise, which can be done through knowledge transfer, teaching and research. I would also like to specialize in feminist studies, as nursing is a predominantly female profession whose status must be upgraded and whose members must be acknowledged as full-fledged health professionals.
