Peggy Hancock

TD Aboriginal Nursing Award – Master’s

I am extremely honored to be a recipient of a CNF TD Aboriginal Nursing Award. I work as a nursing instructor at Western Regional School of Nursing in Corner Brook, NL and am a member of the Qalipu Mi’kmaq First Nation Band. I feel fortunate to have had many valuable nursing experiences since graduating with my BN in 2003.  My most meaningful work involves working with student nurses, many of whom are of aboriginal descent.  I am proud to participate in their journey to becoming members of the nursing profession while promoting the importance of culturally competent care. It is my sincere hope that I can inspire aboriginal students to maximize their potential to positively affect the lives of others in their communities and their world. I am currently completing my final courses toward a Master of Nursing degree at Athabasca University.

I, like many other graduate students, have juggled multiple roles while working on my degree. I work full time and have a busy family life at home. I appreciate how the CNF and TD Bank are recognizing my hard work and dedication to those I serve. This scholarship is greatly appreciated and will go a long way to reduce the financial stressors associated with graduate education. It is with great honor that I accept this award, and I would like to thank TD Bank and CNF for their valuable support.

We know that helping nurses and nursing students is a team effort. This leads to a stronger, more robust healthcare system for Canada.

Your support today, on Giving Tuesday, empowers us to set ambitious goals, strengthen our resources, and show that our collective generosity fuels the next generation of nurses. Let’s make this year’s Giving Tuesday our most impactful yet, proving that our collective kindness can create lasting change.
