TD Aboriginal Nursing Award – Baccalaureate
There are many health disparities facing our aboriginal communities and I hope to help build positive change by empowering the community members with health teaching and health promotion. I am excited to learn from the people of northern Saskatchewan to help provide me with a broader base of knowledge of the culture but also of the various health issues that they face in isolated areas.
I am currently completing my fourth year of nursing through the University of Saskatchewan. I am extremely grateful to be a second time recipient of the Canadian Nurses Foundation TD Aboriginal Nursing Fund Award. This award gives me the opportunity to pursue my goal of completing my final practicum in an aboriginal community in northern Saskatchewan. For the past few years I have been working in various roles providing health promotion and health education to aboriginal youth from Saskatchewan. I am passionate about community health nursing, mental illness, addictions, sexual health and how these areas affect aboriginal people.
