RBC Diversity in Nursing Award

I am currently employed as an LPN while working on obtaining my Bachelors of Nursing through Athabasca University using their distance education program. I work in the Emergency Department and absolutely love it; working with acute situations as an LPN confirms for me that being an RN there is exactly where I want to be.

Working in Moncton NB, being bilingual is an excellent asset therefore I plan taking French courses with aspirations of being a bilingual registered nurse. To me, communication with my patients is extremely important therefore being bilingual will help this aspect of the job. Aside from working part-time, family life and studying, I also assist my educational department as an instructor of Basic Life Support (BLS). I not only use this skill to recertify my co-workers but also offer classes to my community, friends and family as I believe it is very important for them to be informed with this potential lifesaving information.

Upon graduation, I hope to be working as a registered nurse in the Emergency department. I plan on continuing to teach CPR/BLS in hopes of developing it into a company coupled with First Aid. Words cannot express my gratitude felt in receiving this award from RBC and the Canadian Nurses Foundation. Many thanks to the donors involved with the scholarships; with their donations my goal of becoming a registered nurse and furthering my career is that much closer for me.
