Military Nurses Award
Founded by Col. Agnes Campbell Neill
I am a public health nurse who has studied and worked in the United States, Vancouver’s downtown Eastside, northern Canada, Ethiopia, and Haiti. Currently, I work as an infant and child public health nurse in British Columbia, while pursuing my Master of Science degree at Simon Fraser University (SFU) in the Faculty of Health Sciences. These diverse exposures have provided me with unique learning opportunities and perspectives on health disparities and inequities that affect Canadians and our global neighbours. I plan to use my education and experiences to improve public and population health programs and services, as a nurse, anthropological researcher, educator, and clinician. More specifically, my goal is to complete a PhD in Nursing and become a global expert in the area of infant, child, and maternal health, specializing in breastfeeding and health equity.
Having participated as a nurse in successful indisciplinary teams, I firmly believe we need a wide range of perspectives, approaches, and methods in order to fully understand health inequities. My academic training in an interdisciplinary faculty at SFU has provided me with the tools needed to conduct innovative research and collaborate across disciplines. My goal is totranslate nursing research into practice; making it accessible to policy makers, health care providers, as well as the general public. CNF’s Military Nurses Association Award will support me during the final year of my program, allowing me to fully focus on my research.
Thank you CNF and CNF donors for your generous support!
