Extendicare Nurse Practitioner Award

I would like to sincerely thank the Canadian Nurses Foundation and their generous donors. I feel humbled and privileged to be a 2014 award recipient.

My career as a registered nurse began in 2005. Soon after, I specialized in cardiac care. During my practice, I found myself hungry for more knowledge and autonomy. Being mentored by two exceptional nurse practitioners helped me to realize that if I wanted to actualize on my full potential, I must leave my full-time job and pursue a graduate education.

This award affords me the freedom to focus on the final year of my nurse practitioner program, where I will be fulfilling my clinical practicum hours. In addition, it will also help to fund my attendance to a national cardiovascular conference where I will present a workshop to RN’s from around the country, with the hope of impacting them and the care they provide to their patients.

In combining the advanced skills acquired in my program with my sincerity to improve the lives of everyone in our healthcare system, my goal is to not only provide care for people with heart failure, but also to improve the quality of life of everyone in my community. Doing so, will help make us a healthier Canada.
