Award Recipient

Maria Corina Macapinlac

RBC Diversity in Nursing Fund Award

I have worked for five years as an ICU/ Med/Surg nurse and school clinical instructor in the Philippines. It was November 2010 when I came here in Canada. With no relatives except my husband, I fear change. Albeit, I focus myself in getting my profession to be recognize here. I step out on my comfort zone. I work at retail and home care. I took whatever job I could get to support my family back in my country while pursuing my endeavors here. However, things were not easy, it took me three years to get in to the re-entry program and along the way I experience a lot of frustrations. Nevertheless, with this quote in my mind “Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.”-Confucius, which reminds me that I’m capable of rising and fulfilling my goals in life. Thus, when I’ve read the letter from Canadian Nursing Foundation noting of my selection as RBC Diversity Award recipient I was delighted because it was an answered prayer for my CRNE application. I was teary eyed while reading the letter and at the back of my mind, I’m thinking God has planned for me. For that matter, I will be able to pursue my goal and resume my career. I will be able to make a difference among the life of my patients and be able to do what I always love to do, which is to provide tender loving care for my patients.
