RBC Diversity in Nursing Fund Award

The role of nurses is crucial in helping stroke survivors and their family members to deal with the physical, mental and social impacts of stroke. As a future Registered Nurse with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from York University, I am committed to providing the best possible care for my patients. The most recent knowledge and skills are required in order to provide high quality of care. The Canadian Nurses Foundation Scholarship that I was awarded, would give me the great opportunity to continue to upgrade my previous academic and nursing experience by allowing me to take a Neuroscience course in George Brown College. This specialized course will enhance my neurological assessment skills and teach me new ways of stroke treatment and health care methods which will result in faster recoveries and decreased instances of strokes.

I plan to obtain a job position in the Stroke Department of the Sunnybrook Hospital where I will be able to effectively apply my new advanced knowledge in treatment and caring. I believe that through my continuous learning I will be able to make the most positive impact on the lives of patients as their physical, mental and emotional improvements contribute to faster recoveries. The patients’ successful recoveries would also be beneficial to their family members due to decreased emotional stress and fewer expenses spent on treatments. Also, community would benefit from active engaging in social life of the stroke survivors.

I am very grateful to the donors and to the Canadian Nurses Foundation for giving me this great chance to make a lasting difference in health care.
