RBC Diversity in Nursing Fund Award
I am so glad that I become a recipient of RBC Diversity in Nursing Award. I am an internationally educated nurse who came to Canada in July 2008 as a permanent resident. However, after my nursing credentials were assessed by the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), I was only eligible to write RPN exam. I have to go back to nursing school here in Canada to finish the designated theory and clinical practice requirement if I wanted to get my RN registration. I passed my RPN exam in the Sep 2009 and got my RPN License in May 2010.I started working as a part time RPN from May 2010 till now. But I knew my goal is to become an RN. So, while working as a part-time RPN in order to support my family, I started going back to school in George Brown College, Toronto from May 2009 till now. It is a long journey for me and for all internationally educated nurses here in Canada. Working and studying at the same time is really challenge but the RBC Diversity in Nursing Award has relieved some of my financial burden so I can concentrate on my study and pursue my dream.
Looking back my whole journey since I finished my nursing college, I have never regretted by becoming a nurse. This profession allows me to care for an individual in the most vulnerable states and to gain trust and rapport with them. Nursing is not an easy job, but at the end my day, I know I have made the right decision to serve people who need me with my love and passion.
