Nightingale Award
I am a student entering my final year of nursing at the British Columbia Institute of Technology. I was raised in Northwestern British Columbia, where I plan to return to work as a Registered Nurse and hope to provide competent, compassionate, and culturally appropriate health care services. This past summer, I worked as an employed student nurse in acute medicine and emergency units at Wrinch Memorial Hospital, in the village of Hazelton, BC. My experience there reaffirmed my desire to work as a registered nurse serving rural communities.
Receiving the Nightingale Award provides me with financial support to enable me to focus on my coursework in this final year and allow me time pursue additional preparation for rural practice. After working to consolidate my nursing practice, I hope to gain experience in home care nursing. In this way, I hope to contribute to a health care system that can support rural families to optimize their quality of life.
