Award Recipient

Margaret van Wyk

Johnson & Johnson Award

I am honored and beyond grateful to have been selected for the CNF Johnson & Johnson award. This award will be critical in supporting me in my senior year in the undergraduate Nursing program at the University of Toronto. This award also provides me the ability to dedicate more time to involvement in research, extracurricular activities and involvement in the undergraduate nursing society council. After my rotations in the field of acute and pediatric care, with a focus on pain, I became very passionate as they stood out as very special learning experiences. It is a humbling experience to work with patients during their operative or most vulnerable experiences in their healthcare, which can often be frightening and challenging both emotionally and physically.

It is my dream to continue in this field after graduation and to use my position in critical care to obtain both a masters and PhD in research to improve evidence-based patient-centered care. This award greatly impacts my future career as I hope to one day become a mentor for other students and be able to contribute back to nursing students in the same generous way I have been supported by this award.
