Feelin Rose Labor

RBC Diversity in Nursing Fund Award

I arrived here in Canada May 2011 with my husband and 2 year old son. It was not an easy start because I did not have enough information on how to transition my nursing profession from being a registered nurse in the Philippines to becoming a nurse here in Ontario. One of the reasons that it took me more than three years to finally decide to pursue my nursing profession was the lack of confidence in myself. I felt that I was not equipped with enough knowledge to care for my patients. I was missing that determination and inspiration. I was lucky being hired as a clinical assistant in one of the community health centers at Queen and Pape. This experience was an eye opener for me, I became passionate and motivated to pursue my nursing career with the goals helping and building a healthy community. I believe that healthier community promotes healthier population thus decreasing illnesses and diseases.

I am currently studying at York University and would like to peruse social justice as my drive to becoming a nurse. I am grateful to be one of the recipients of the Canadian Nurses Foundation RBC Diversity in Nursing Scholarship. This award will help me not only financially but is also as a sign that I can become an agent of change who can make a difference in other people’s lives especially those who are vulnerable and unable to speak for themselves.
