Johnson & Johnson Award

I am about to enter the final year of my Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at the University of British Columbia. I originally pursued a career in engineering and completed a Bachelor and Master of Science degree, followed by seven years working as a Professional Engineer. Despite my success I realized through my personal and professional experiences that I most enjoy caring and advocating for people. I sought out volunteer positions to fulfill this passion but it never felt like quite enough.

My life was forever changed over two years ago when a loved one passed away suddenly. The nursing team in the intensive care unit was incredibly skilled in their ability to comfort us and provide care to our loved one. Despite the grief I felt at the time I came to realize that I had many abilities in common with this team. It was that experience that convinced me to change the direction of my life and pursue a career in nursing. Upon graduation it is my goal to become a critical care nurse and work with the pediatric population. My desire is to combine my compassion and skills so that I can care for patients and their families in crisis as my family was once cared for.

We know that helping nurses and nursing students is a team effort. This leads to a stronger, more robust healthcare system for Canada.

Your support today, on Giving Tuesday, empowers us to set ambitious goals, strengthen our resources, and show that our collective generosity fuels the next generation of nurses. Let’s make this year’s Giving Tuesday our most impactful yet, proving that our collective kindness can create lasting change.
