Judy Hill Memorial Award

I am so honoured to be the recipient of the Judy Hill Memorial award and would like to thank the Canadian Nurses Foundation as well as the donors for making it possible for me to receive this scholarship. I am so passionate about nursing and this award means so much to me.

During my first year of school, I heard a presentation from an aboriginal nurse who started her nursing career in remote northern aboriginal communities. Her story really inspired me to seriously consider doing northern Canada nursing upon graduation. From a young age, I have always wanted to reach out to the less fortunate around me and show love to people in practical ways. I believe pursuing a nursing career in Canada’s north would not only grow me as a person and as a novice nurse, but would also offer a unique opportunity to deepen my understanding of Canada’s aboriginal people and their relevant health concerns. There is plenty of change and reform that still needs to happen within Canada’s healthcare system and I am determined to make a positive impact, however small or large that may be.

The Judy Hill Memorial scholarship will enable me to continue my nursing education in order to become a registered nurse in Canada’s north. Thank you ever so much for your generosity and for selecting me for this award!
