Marilynne Convey Aplastic Anemia & Myelodysplasia Association of Canada (AAMAC) Award

My fascination with nursing began during a volunteer role at my local hospital, where I had the opportunity to work alongside nurses and provide support to post-partum mothers and neonatal infants. Within this role I got to see firsthand the positive impact nurses have on their patients, their empathy, compassion, and vast knowledge base. From this experience I was completely drawn to the profession and went on to complete a Bachelor of Nursing at the University of Western Ontario. I graduated from Western in 2017 and have had the opportunity to work in multiple settings including acute care, community care, and public health. Throughout my career I have developed a passion for paediatric nursing and a specific interest in paediatric oncology. I also enjoy participating in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives, to improve the patient experience.

By working in multiple roles and settings I have had the opportunity to witness the diverse roles
of many nurses, which has inspired me to pursue my goal of becoming a nurse practitioner.
Currently, I am completing my first year of the Master of Nursing Primary Health Care Nurse
Practitioner program at the University of Western Ontario. As a future nurse practitioner, I aspire
to holistically care for my patients and their families, further develop therapeutic relationships,
ensure continuity of care, and improve excellence in pediatric nursing.
