Dr. Helen K. Mussellem Award

There are so many reasons why I chose to become a nurse that I could never narrow it down to just one thing. Similarly, I think that is actually why I chose nursing because I did not want to limit myself to picking only one thing. Although I may be biased I truly believe choosing to be a nurse offers you one of the most fulfilling and versatile careers. I have been able to pursue any of my varying interests through this profession: whether it be hands-on patient care or virtual research. I have been able to pursue my passion for pediatric healthcare in an acute care setting all the while knowing that if I chose to turn around tomorrow and delve into researching the quality of life of people with dementia it would be entirely possible. If I could convince everyone I have ever met to try out this career I truly believe they would all find at least one thing they loved about this profession. Me, I know I will never get tired of the constant learning and excitement that currently fills my nursing days. But if in some parallel universe, I did get bored of this, I know that this profession will always have something new to excite me.
