Harrison Blonde

CeraVe Skincare Scholarships for Diversity and Equity

My name is Harrison Blonde, and I decided to pursue a career in nursing for several reasons. After growing up watching my mother’s health deteriorate due to chronic illness and being ostracized because of my ADHD, I wanted to become someone capable of helping others when they are at their most vulnerable. I fell in love with the profession and discipline of nursing because it has equipped me with knowledge and skills that I can use to help improve the health and wellness of people I encounter both inside and outside of the workplace. As someone who loves reading books and connecting with others, I was also attracted by the way nursing provides me with opportunities to meet new people and hear their stories while also giving me my own stories to share with others. These factors have led me to complete a healthcare aide certificate program in high school, work countless hours of overtime during the COVID pandemic, and start doing nursing informatics research as I strive to experience everything that nursing has to offer. I am entering into my final year of nursing at the University of Calgary, and I am excited to continue challenging myself as I aim to master the theory behind pharmacology and pathophysiology while putting that theory into practice to solve complex cases within the clinical setting through my practicum placements. In the future, I plan to become a nurse practitioner and hope to contribute more to this profession that I love.
