Dr. Kathryn J Hannah Nursing Informatics Scholarship

I am a doctoral student at the Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing at the University of Toronto. My doctoral research focuses on how various barriers and facilitators influence nurses’ use of electronic health records.  I entered the field of nursing, as I wanted to pursue a career that would serve both the local and international community.  Thus far, I have been fortunate to work clinically in medical-surgical and mental health settings.  As well, I have had the opportunity to teach nursing and health informatics as a teaching assistant and as a lecturer.

Upon graduating from the doctoral program, I would like to pursue research, teaching and have an impact on practice related to nursing informatics and mental health in Canada. Through my involvement with the Ontario Nursing Informatics Group, the International Council of Nurses eHealth Programme and through my doctoral studies, I have learned that there has been limited nursing informatics research within mental health settings in both Canada and abroad.  I am very grateful to the Canadian Nurses Foundation and the Dr. Kathryn J Hannah Nursing Informatics Scholarship award committee for establishing this award, and selecting me as this year’s recipient.
